First Steps

Today we had a few visitors to our LAUNCH class (just a quick clarification, LAUNCH is the portion of the week where we learn about the entrepreneurial side of beginning Common Cause Communities). I recently reached out to the L’Arche Wavecrest in Orange, CA mainly to help me understand what work is already being done in the community for persons with disabilities. It was a very inspiring and moving meeting: I was holarchelding back tears the whole time. I really appreciate their willingness to come and share their knowledge, experience, and passion, and their excitement for what I am doing at the Hatchery.

The meeting was also very challenging, in the sense that it has caused me to reconsider all my ideas about what I want to do with my Common Cause Community. The wonderful part about this whole process is the space for the refinement and growth that occurs when you are presented with new information. I came into this thinking I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Several weeks later that idea radically changed. And now, it is beginning to re-form again. But this is the process, and I am grateful for L’Arche Wavecrest and their support while I continually make new first steps.
